About Jessica

I find it helpful to know about my clients, so in turn I am offering some background into myself to help make an informed decision for those who wish to pursue their therapeutic journey here. I bring six years of therapy, counselling, and support granted through a wide variety of clinical environments. Beginning into this field I wanted to be involved in many different environments in order to bring a wealth of experiences to clients. Some of these experiences include hospitals, social service agencies, child mental health organizations, residential treatment facilities, provincial correctional facilities, school boards, and private practice.
As a trained mental health professional I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Also, as a general member of the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists, I adhere to the rigorous standards outlined by the code of ethics and standards of practice of the OACCPP. I am also a registered member in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
I have undertaken a number of crisis deescalation courses to support clients through all stages of crisis (pre-crisis, crisis, and post-crisis), as well as pursued ASIST training in order to provide appropriate care to clients at risk of suicide.

REWRITING YOUR NARRATIVE is about working alongside you throughout the therapeutic process to replace the past problem-filled narrative with a rewritten version of strength and resilience. Within the ideals of rewriting your narrative, narrative = your personalized story, which is exclusive to you, your life, and your values. So, when you have decided to rewrite your story, do not think of it as erasing what makes you unique, as our past experiences help create who we are today. Rather, think of rewriting your story as a revised edition, keeping everything that represents you, the challenges you have faced, and everything you want to overcome to make your life more meaningful. At Rewriting Your Narrative, the process of seeing people as separate from their problem is a guiding influence in the work I am able to do here. This guide is largely due to my experiences in working within narrative therapy, where you (not the therapist) is the expert over your own life. I believe this represents the strength of the human condition and the personal power to overcome obstacles. Yet, there may be times when you are looking for a specific type of therapeutic approach, often times this may be cognitive-behavioural therapy as proposed by your family doctor. Other times, you may want to pursue mindfulness-based therapy to “de-stress”, ground yourself, or want to develop a different, compassionate way to relate to thoughts. When you are pursuing treatment through benefits, there may be a need for brief solution focused therapy (1-5 treatment sessions) because of the limited nature of what can be reimbursed. If you are looking for a specific type of therapy approach, we can incorporate this within your personalized treatment plan. |
